Working Principle: 

JW Extruder Spheronizer / Marumerizer combines screw extruder and spheronizer into one machine, which is used to make wet powder mixture into spherical pellets of 0.3-3mm for lab formulation development or small-scale production. The process is well known and widely used in the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, catalyst, petrochemical, materials science and other industries. 

Raw material (wet powders prepared in batch kneader or high shear mixer) is fed into the screw extruder via the feed tray, where the screw extrudes the raw material through a conic die to make cylindrical extrudate of required size. The extrudate then falls onto the spinning friction disc, which throws them against the inner wall of the cylindrical bowl. The extrudate quicky breaks into segments of 1-1.2 times their diameter in length. These segments repeatedly collide with the bowl wall and then are thrown back to the inside of the friction disc. This ongoing process creates a "rope movement" of product along the bowl wall and gradually convert the cylindrical segments into compacted spherical pellets. When the particles have reached the desired level of sphericity, they are then discharged from the spheronizer.

Technical Features: 

  • Screw extruder and spheronizer are combined into one compact machine.
  • All the extrusion parts and spheronization disc can be easily dismantled for cleaning.
  • The hole size of conical die for extrusion can be 0.3-3mm
  • Different types of friction plate (or spheronization disc) are available: smooth disc, groove pattern disc or inclined disc.
  • Fines air is introduced into the spheronization bowl, which can not only prevents dust from getting between the rotating disc and the wall of the spheronization bowl, but also can remove the surface moisture of the granules to improve the friction forces and process efficiency.
